Windows 2000 Clean Install

Hi i have a optiplex gx150 that has been reformatted. Im doing a course on windows xp profeisonal, in order to learn the upgrade from windows 2000 to windows xp prof, what will i need. Should i buy a windows 2000 OS then buy a disk for the Drivers for the optiplex gx150, Then once installed go through the stages of upgrading to windows xp prof, as i have a windows xp prof os disk with licence?

Im just a bit hazy on this upgrade. and want to learn all aspects. I know i could buy a disk or download the drivers needed. but once i have this installed then install xp would it then tell me what was compatable and then i could download from there.
Id appreciate any help on this matter.
thanks BT

Re: Windows 2000 Clean Install

and welcome to the Forum

Windows 2000 is hard to find and when you can it is expensive. You may find one on eBay. XP will likely have all the drivers for the devices that came on the Optiplex. . any that it does not can be downloaded from the Dell Support site.

The upgrade from win2k is pretty straightforward and easy. Just put rhe XP cd in and select Upgrade . . .

You can get a reinstallation guide specific to your Dell here

Re: Windows 2000 Clean Install

ebay's definitely an options. the OEM versions (ones with the booklet) sold are really cheap now

Re: Windows 2000 Clean Install

You should not buy OEM versions of windows OS's if you are going to constantly keep reinstalling them for various activities. You should buy the Retail versions because they do not hold the restraints of an OEM.
