Failed Installation of XP from 2k

Yesterday i started the setup for XP on my computer. It seemed to work fine then when it restarted itself and continued the setup i got a error message...

SXS.DLL Dyntax Error in Manifest or Policy File "D.\1386\52\MSFT\Windows\NET\DXMRTP.MAN" on line 7.

Error
Installation Failed: D:\1385\ASMS. Error Message: Incorrect Function

So i let the computer attempt to fix itself and it restarted. It came back to the same part of the setup...It gave me the same message.

So my mother called her computer guy that gave her the XP CD. He said to go into BIOs and change the Boot to the CDROM so it would boot off the CD. which really didnt make since to me. So i did it anyways, changed 1st Boot Method to CDROM, saved, restarted. Same **** happens, it gets the error and restarts.

any help would be AWESOME!

Much love

Re: Failed Installation of XP from 2k

So Windows won't install from a bootable CD. Possible reasons:
1. CD is corrupt. Surprisingly, it happens all over the time, even if a most close inspection can't find any scratches on CD surface.
2. CD-DVD drive can't read the disk.
3. Old BIOS (sometimes it causes troubles).
4. Faulty RAM (however little chances are).
5. HDD is failing (though I doubt since you've been running W2K OK).
Consequently, possible resolutions would be: try another XP Cd, change CD-DVD drive, flash BIOS with latest update, test & replace RAM sticks, get a new hard drive.
Too much work - yes.
So the first thing I would do in a similar situation: copy XP Cd contents onto hard drive, create a bootable ISO, burn it onto a blank CD/CD-RW and try installing Windows. If it fails again, then I'd suspect original CD is not exactly "original".

What is the Brand/Model of the pc? Was this a clean install? . . where you boot from the CD, delete partitions then install? Or did you install on top on win2K?

Re: Failed Installation of XP from 2k

You delete the partitions early in the reinstallation process. This is a good guide to reinstalling XP . . you might want to print it for reference during the install.
