Windows 2000 startsup with only top half display

Hi
I am using W2000 SP4 - we had some power problem yesterday & since then the computer always starts up with half screen - bottom half is black.
Even in safe mode this problem remains.
I removed & reinstalled the display driver it didn't help.
Even when the computer is booting up the display is only on half screen.
I guess it is an O/S problem not the video card/driver problem, since the display is half screen even before logging in.
Any sugesstions ????
Regards
raj

Sounds like your video card or ram could have taken a hit when the power surged, do you have any video cards or RAM you could borrow?

If it's only 1/2 screen while booting (before the OS starts) that would be a hardware problem, not an OS problem.

Boot the system and enter the BIOS. If you only see a half screen there, it's not an OS problem.

If you don't know the keystroke to enter the BIOS, you may have to look it up in the Owners manual, though DEL, F1, F2 are common.

It would not be an OS problem as the OS does not even load until you finish seeing the OS loading screen.

Re: Windows 2000 startsup with only top half display

I tried that earlier. Even in BIOS mode there is only halfscreen.
Even before BIOS mode whenthe system starts up counting memory it is still half screen.
Is the monitor gone ? - I am more inclined to think that way

I agree, can you borrow a monitor from a friend or neighbour ?

Re: Windows 2000 startsup with only top half display

It's very unlikely that it's the monitor, it would be the video card or the RAM.

Re: Windows 2000 startsup with only top half display

I really don't know what happenned - it got corrected itself. I have full display now. I didn't do anything that meant something but suddenly the screen went to full size.
Thanks all for the feedback
