cant install win2k? i hate dell -_-

okay so i got a radeon x800 today for my girlfriend and its not letting any d3d or 3d acceleration work. it cant even detect how much ram the card has. weird but this problem is common. i want to try a fresh os install and hdd wipe. She has a dell dimension 8300... P4 2.6, GeForce FX5200, 1GB DDR400 Pc2700, 300GB hdd. windows xp. just upgraded her to an x800 today so the FX5200 obviously doesnt apply. when i boot from cd-rom, it sits for a second, and then just boots xp. dunno, never had this prob, it always just let me instally a fresh copy of windows right over.

Are you trying to install windows XP or windows 2000? It's possible that it's having an issue with reading the disk, that's what I'd check first. Also, have to tried reinstalling DirectX to get D3D stuff working? I'd check here first before doing a full reinstall.

Did you set the boot order in the BIOS? Should be CD-ROM first, then HD.
As for hardware acceleration, be sure to use the ATI drivers, not the generic ones bundled with Windows (even if they are the correct ones and not "default VGA"). Microsoft rarely provides optimized drivers. http://support.amd.com/us/psearch/Pa...nload%20Detail

try setting the boot order, and be sure to use the ATI optimised drivers. Make the boot order so the CD ROM boots first. You can get through that from the boot menu
