Windows 2000 and Norton AntiVirus
I couldn't really find any other forum that this issue could be posted in, so I'm going to post it here. If it needs to be in another forum please redirect it accordingly. I'm checking out an old Dell running Windows 2000 for a neighbor, and he obviously had Norton AntiVirus on it at one time. He just purchased McAfee Total Protection 2009, and when going through installation, it comes to a point where it searches for incompatible programs installed. The installer finds Norton AntiVirus 2002, and says that it has to be removed before setup can continue. I've ran the Norton Removal Tool that is available from Symantec's website, searched the hard drive for Symantec and Norton files and folders and deleted them, and also searched through the registry for Symantec and Norton entries and deleted them. But to no avail can I get through McAfee's setup. It keeps telling me that it finds Norton AV 2002. Is there anything I can do apart from formatting and reinstalling Windows, and using another anti virus program. I tried to convince him to use something like Avast or AVG, but he prefers to use this McAfee that he purchased. If anybody has any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate some assistance. Thanks.
