Unzipping Files
So, I play a game called Oblivion, and I download a bunch of modifications for it.
When I unzip them, it puts the entire file into the directory that I designate, but that's not what I want. Is there a way to make them extract to their designated folder right off the bat? Here's what happens: I choose the file where I want to extract the files. It extracts the files. However, it's in it's own folder, when I want it to go directly to that folder, and not create any new folders. Make sense? Also, in it's sub folders, I want them to just go into the folders that they're designated to go into. Here's an example: On my HD: Here are folders Main Folder: DATA Sub Folder: Meshes Sub Folder: Textures Here's what I want to extract: "Blahblah" Contains sub folder: Meshes > Meow Contains sub folder: Textures > Meow Here's how it extracts: Into Main Folder (DATA) as File: Blah blah with the sub folders IN the new main folder blah blah. HEre's what I want: When I click extract, I pick Main Folder: DATA It extracts Meshes > Meow into my HD Meshes folder. And it extracts Textures > Meow into my HD Textures folder. Automatically. So I don't have to go around rearranging all the dang files into their designated folders. |

Re: Unzipping Files
Does your DATA folder have a parent folder? If yes, I suggest you back it up first (just to be safe). Then extract your files into that parent folder. Of course it may ask you if you want to overwrite certain files... that is the point you need to decide.

Re: Unzipping Files
Normally it will do that if the data was saved within a file. For example instead of copying everything from the my documents folder and adding to a zip file, you simply zip the my documents folder. If you/they have zipped the folder containing the files, then when you restore it, it will restore the folder as well, which is what sounds like is happening to you. I think if you open the zip file, then double click the folder inside of the, you should then be able to select the files in the folder and tell it to extract those.

Re: Unzipping Files
Even if I select specific files for it to extract it puts it into the parent folder, and idea how to stop it from doing that and just extract the files I want it to without the parent file?

Re: Unzipping Files
Are you using any compression/archiving program to do this (i.e. Winzip, 7zip, etc.)? If you are using the one that came with Windows, try using Winzip or 7zip or WinRAR so you can just open the archive and see its contents first.
