Win 2K pro constantly reboots at loading windows screen

A friends computer will keep rebooting when it gets to the loading windows screen. He has tried safe mode, last known good.., but nothing will work. He has tried booting from the 2K cd, repairing windows and using the recovery console, but that did not work either. It will not get by the loading windows screen.

He could boot from the cd and reload windows, but has several files and pictures he would like to save first. He said this all started after loading a game.

At the worst, I will slave the hard drive, load a fresh copy of windows on a new drive and recover the files from his old drive.

Any other suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Well, I got nothin'. I know it doesn't help but just thought I'd say.

The disk to disk copying sounds like a good idea to me.
