Helping the Lame
Hi -
Please have patience... I am pretty computer illiterate.. Okay so I was given a beater Tecra 8100 Toshiba laptop from my now bankrupt previous employer. I am running windows 2000 pro...Besides being terribly infected with Spyware, it has a peculiar problem when I start it up. Every time I reboot the system detects new hardware and I get a Found New Hardware Multimedia Audio Controller message. The system idles for like 2 minutes and then the Found New Hardware Wizard comes up. I step through the wizard and since I have no CD or Floppy or anything with the driver on it the wizard ends up telling me that it could not find a driver. So I go to the control panel and remove the Multimedia Audio Controller. The only problem is, when I turn off my computer the same thing happens again. Any clue as to what is going on? I dont even need the Multimedia Audio Controller. I just use the laptop for documentation and fairly trivial tasks. I think that whoever had the laptop before me deleted some driver or something like that... I would simply like to log on and not have this new hardware found anymore... Don't remove the controller, but rather disable it. It will stop prompting you for the drivers.

Disabling the Controller
John -
I guess my next question would be how do I disable the Multimedia Audio Controller? I went to the control panel and went to Sounds and Multimedia but couldnt find anything in there. The only time I see it is if I go to Add/Remove Hardware and then it comes up. I am running windows 2000... if that helps ar |

Windows 2000/XP * You can open Device Manager by double-clicking on the System icon in Control Panel, choosing the Hardware tab, and clicking Device Manager.

Or you could likely go to the laptop mfr website, download drivers for it, have audio and get rid of it popping up when you boot.
Here ya go! ;) Click Download and do your selections it'll walk you to all available downloads for your laptop. They do have audio drivers for Win 2000. You can apply filters to specify what drivers you want to see at the top of the driver list page. http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/t...su_sc_home.jsp Last edited by ICFire : 12-22-2004 at 06:31 AM. |

Disabled the Audio Controller
Hi guys -
Thanks for all of the ideas. For now I just went into the device manager and disabled the multimedia audio controller...It is so nice to reboot and not have to sit and wait... Once I get the computer virus free I will most likely go to the mfgr website and download the drivers... Thanks for all of your help. This is by far the most helpful site I have ever found. If any of you guys ever need real estate in san diego let me know and I will find you a sweet deal. ar |
