When trying to run windows 2000 pro I can only get past user password, then blank blue screen appears and no desktop. Will not load after that.
I have right clicked on the screen and nothing happens. I have pressed control alt delete and the usual options appear, and they all work except Task Manager, so I cannot run anything at all. I have tried booting up in Safe Mode but it only goes so far, then nothing happens. I then have to press control alt delete and Shut Down. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Dave. |

Re: Blank blue screen when trying to run win 2000 pro
When you press Ctrl-Alt-Del, pick Task Manager, look at Processes. Do you see Explorer.exe? If so kill it (select and click end process). Then click file, new task, and type explorer.exe and press enter. That means that some module is hanging Windows Explorer at startup. It's hard to guess which one though unless you can remember the last item(s) or driver(s) you installed.
If you don't see Explorer.exe, then go to file, new task and type explorer.exe to force it to start. Beyond that, I'm not sure what to suggest. |

Re: Blank blue screen when trying to run win 2000 pro
Thanks a lot, but I could not get Task Manager to do anything at all, so I have had to format the hard drive and reinstall Windows. Drastic action but at least it now works. Thanks once again for your help.
Dave. |
