explorer.exe error with mp3 files (moved from HJT Help)
Hi, I have no idea if this is the right forum for this, but I feel like I've tried everything and I'm getting restless.
Anyway, my problem is this: About a week ago my desktop was in a formatted stage (the blue screen, no desktop icns, start menu empty, etc.) But all the files were there, nothing was deleted. After a restart the computer said there's a problem with the user (win2000pro). Eventually what I did was create a new user and copied the files from Documents and Settings from the old bad user to the new one. I have no idea if it was smart to do but it's the only thing I could think of. After that everything was restored and worked fine, until I found another problem (which I don't know if it's related or not). I can't copy/delete/rename mp3 files, I can't even right click them. I get "exploere.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows" and then windows restarts (not the computer) and not all of the icons appear in the system tray. I can play the files just fine, and I can delete them through an mp3 file manager. One more thing, I did follow all the instructions before posting this, I ran ad-aware, the house clean virus check plus my own personal norton anti-virus, no viruses were found on either one of them. And the only thing Ad-Aware found was some bad cookies and 2 bad url's from favorites. Here's my log, please help, and thank you Log was analyzed using HijackThis Analyzer - Updated on 12/4/04 Get updates at http://www.greyknight17.com/download.htm#programs Logfile of HijackThis v1.98.2 Scan saved at 00:45:22, on 06/12/2004 Platform: Windows 2000 SP4 (WinNT 5.00.2195) MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP1 (6.00.2800.1106) Running processes: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccEvtMgr.exe C:\Program Files\Norton Internet Security\NISUM.EXE C:\Program Files\Norton Internet Security\ccPxySvc.exe C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\navapsvc.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccApp.exe C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_04\bin\jusched.exe C:\Program Files\GlobespanVirata\Adsl\dslagent.exe C:\Program Files\MoodLogic\Service\Updater.exe C:\HJT\HijackThis.exe R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://www.microsoft.com/isapi/redir...ie&ar=iesearch R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.cbtreviews.com/showthread.php?t=15968 R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://www.microsoft.com/isapi/redir...r=6&ar=msnhome R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://www.microsoft.com/isapi/redir...ie&ar=iesearch R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://www.microsoft.com/isapi/redir...ie&ar=iesearch R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.microsoft.com/isapi/redir.dll?prd={SUB_PRD}&clcid={SUB_CLSID}&pver={SUB_PVER}&ar=home R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://www.google.com/ie R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Connection Wizard,ShellNext = http://www.microsoft.com/isapi/redir...r=6&ar=msnhome R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,AutoConfigURL = http://www.tau.ac.il/remote.pac R3 - URLSearchHook: FiltURL Class - {5038FED1-CEFE-11D2-9E74-00A0C945A948} - C:\PROGRA~1\netex\URLSEA~1.DLL O2 - BHO: (no name) - {53707962-6F74-2D53-2644-206D7942484F} - C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy\SDHelper.dll O2 - BHO: NAV Helper - {BDF3E430-B101-42AD-A544-FADC6B084872} - C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\NavShExt.dll O3 - Toolbar: Norton AntiVirus - {42CDD1BF-3FFB-4238-8AD1-7859DF00B1D6} - C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\NavShExt.dll O3 - Toolbar: DAP Bar - {62999427-33FC-4baf-9C9C-BCE6BD127F08} - C:\Program Files\DAP\DAPIEBar.dll O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Promon.exe] Promon.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ccApp] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccApp.exe" O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ccRegVfy] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccRegVfy.exe" O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_04\bin\jusched.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Symantec NetDriver Monitor] C:\PROGRA~1\SYMNET~1\SNDMon.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SSC_UserPrompt] C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\Security Center\UsrPrmpt.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [DSLSTATEXE] C:\Program Files\GlobespanVirata\Adsl\dslstat.exe icon O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [DSLAGENTEXE] C:\Program Files\GlobespanVirata\Adsl\dslagent.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MoodLogic Updater] C:\Program Files\MoodLogic\Service\Updater.exe O4 - Startup: netex.LNK = C:\Program Files\NetEx\netex.exe O8 - Extra context menu item: &Download with &DAP - C:\PROGRA~1\DAP\dapextie.htm O8 - Extra context menu item: Download &all with DAP - C:\PROGRA~1\DAP\dapextie2.htm O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {08B0E5C0-4FCB-11CF-AAA5-00401C608501} - (no file) O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Sun Java Console - {08B0E5C0-4FCB-11CF-AAA5-00401C608501} - (no file) O9 - Extra button: Run DAP - {669695BC-A811-4A9D-8CDF-BA8C795F261C} - C:\PROGRA~1\DAP\DAP.EXE O9 - Extra button: ICQ Lite - {B863453A-26C3-4e1f-A54D-A2CD196348E9} - C:\Program Files\ICQLite\ICQLite.exe O16 - DPF: {74D05D43-3236-11D4-BDCD-00C04F9A3B61} (HouseCall Control) - http://a840.g.akamai.net/7/840/537/2...ll/xscan53.cab O16 - DPF: {DF780F87-FF2B-4DF8-92D0-73DB16A1543A} (PopCapLoader Object) - http://zone.msn.com/bingame/apop/def...ploader_v5.cab O16 - DPF: {EC9C20C4-FF24-11D3-81B7-00902776CF54} (InstallerActiveX Class) - http://www.netex.co.il/site/Installer.CAB End of HijackThis Analyzer Log. |

So is this a problem related to that program and not Windows in general?
I see nothing wrong in the log itself. What is the windows error message you are getting?

the message is this:
explorer.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows. You will need to restart the program An error log is being created And it happens whenever I try to do something to an mp3 file, wether move it or delete it or rename or right click it. I gave the other program just to say that the files themselves are fine. If I can delete them through a program and not through windows exploer, that means the problem is in exploere. right? |

read it, and it doesn't fit, they talk a lot about viruses and trojans which (after 2 scans with 2 programs) I don't have. They also say to change the system.ini file, and also at the bottom, all the instructions are win98 or me, and I have win2000.
