What processs controls desktop display in W2000
My PC boots OK but the only thing I see on the screen is the Windows Explorer utility. By using that I can get to applications and load them but my desktop never displays. (It's the same if I do a safe mode boot)
I am assuming an executable has been lost/moved/destroyed. Can anyone tell me what item or items I have to restore to brng back my desktop please |

Your... desktop icons never display? Maybe your desktop is in "Active Desktop" mode and "Hide Desktop Icons When In Active Desktop Mode" is enabled?
It COULD be that simple...

Re: What processs controls desktop display in W2000
Hi af3,
Thanks for coming back. I looked and couldn't see anything that would suggest that was the problem so I decided to reinstall W2000. It copied a load of files, started t load up W2000 and stopped with a dark blue screen and the message : STOP: c0000263 {Driver entry point not found} The \System Root\system32\drivers\fltmgr.sys devcie driver could not locate the entry point IoGetDeviceAttachmentBaseRef in driver ntoskrnl.exe At the moment I am struggling to do an emergency repair but it keeps stopping with the same error. I am trying to think of a way to get a copy of the file onto the System32 directory. The broken PC has a diskette drive but this one hasn't so I will have to find someone who can help. (I am away for 6 days now so if you suggest something and don't hear from me it is not because I am being ungrateful) |

Your disc could be dirty or scratched... You could inject it from a working Win2k installation and see if that helps.
