Cyclic Redundancy check

I recently backed up my stuff. After I accidentally wiped some data, I tried to replace it using the CD I had burned as backup. However, I kept getting the message: Data cannot be read. Cyclic redundancy check

Can anyone tell me what this is and if possible, a way to circumvent it?

Many thanks for any help.

I already use Nero. In fact, I use a Samsung CD-writer and Verbatim CD's. Theoretically, it should be ok. But
