%Windir%\system32\config\software.log
Can anyone shed light on this file? It came to my attention after a defrag because it is in 129 pieces, even though it is only 1024 bytes long. I suspect it indexes the file "software" (no extension) which is 14 MB. But I want to know just what info it is tracking; I can never open it because it is always locked by another process... I went as far as to write a little app to make a copy and scheduled that to run at system start. That wasn't soon enough. Also there and of interest (you tell me) is software.sav at 0.5 MB. Thanks!
