Networking question

I'm using WIN2K PRO and I have 6 computers network through a 16 port D-Link switch. Sometime when I go to network places/computers near me and I click on a computer and it says:

\\Computer is not acessible. The refercenced account is currently locked out and my not be logged on to.

When I go to the computer the is not locked out and it running fine. Is there a way I can fix this were I never see this error?

All pc's in the workgroup (those that are NT4, 2k, or XP) must each have an account that is present on all the others, and has the same password. All should log on using this account (or you can provide the user/pass when you try to connect if you log on as a different account)

It sounds like the common account on your network is Guest, which is locked by default.

precisely why I asked of the OS.

Even when trying to access a win2k machine from lets say win98 the current win98 user logged in must be a profile on the 2k machine.

Correct, but the 9x/ME stations can share to machines that don't have a common logon.

Ok if you can trust all your employees/members/coworkers/whatever your situation might be here is tha way I do it at home:

Log on to each individual station as administrator. Change all administrative passwords on all the stations to the same exact password. Any person in any profile with administrative privs should be able to see all shared info on all machines. Remember to share the files/folders you want everyone to have access too.

Man it would be easier to have one NT server or win2000 server with a domain everyone could log in to. Any files/folders you want shared put them on the server. Then at the server you could grant any user any level of access you want. Any station they logged in to with their username/password combo (set up at the server) would grant them identical permissions.

Have a good backup program and you never end up freaking when a workstation craps out which will happen.

Good luck and tell us how it went.

ok here what I have:

I have 6 computers( Comp1, Comp2, Comp3, Comp4, Comp5, Comp6) on the network that needs to acess each other. On each computer I went and made a user account. So on Comp1 I made a a acount for Comp2, Comp3, and so on. All the people on the network are administrators, each has a different password.
I have a shared printer connected on Comp2. All the pc can access the shared printer on Comp2. I have folders on each computer that are shared. This is where the problem comes in. Example: Sometime I can log on to Comp2 shared folder from Comp3, but when I go to access a folder it tell me that access is denied. In other instances I some pcs tocant see all the computers on the network, but i I go to the "search for computer on network option" I can find the computer but the location will be unknown and I can still log on it.
If I can get this (and the config.nt problem, but this in another thread) fixed I willing to make a generous donation to this site. No pressure

Hi RiackRock,

Hv u ever tried the chevys first reply.
I suggest if u make all admin password same u can access the shared folder/printer..........
I tooooo faced this kind of problem in my office abt 1 year back. I did the same (made all Admin pswrd same. and for ordinary users i created a user account in a computer where the shared thing exist) it works for me.

Regards
Siva
