Question Clients looking for Winsock32x.dll

Hi guys

Earlier during the era of Windows98 we were using Linksys lanbridge software for Internet sharing(Dial-up connection) between computers at work. Once after the installation the orginal Wsock32.dll was renamed to Wsock32x.dll(23K) and the the Wsock32.dll installed by the software was 133k.
Since lanbridge software was entirely written for Windows98 we had problems in sharing internet with our Windows 2000 Clients.
As a quick remedy I installed lanbridge software on those Windows 2000 clients (which never updated the wsock32.dll file automatically) and later copied the Wsock file altered by lanbridge software from a Windows 98 client.

Now the problem I have is peculiar. Even after uninstalling the softare and renaming the Wsock files back, programs (Especially Outlook Express) makes a call for Wsock32x.dll and fails to connect to the net!
I tried to scan the entire registry for the call of Wsock32x.dll, and I couldn't find any relevant reference.

Please, if anybody can suggest me a practical solution to get rid of this issue (I have almost 8-9 windows 2000 clients with the similiar problem, and you can just think how time consuming it could be to re-install the OS and all other software) the earliest. Any registry fixing software can fix this problem? If yes, please suggest me.

Thanks in advance.

Have you tried this tool?

Download WinsockFix and unzip it. Then double-click on it to run it.

Grin Still...

Dear CTSNKY

Thanks for your reply. I downloaded and tried to fix the registry related problems with Wsock32.dll, which didn't help me to get rid of that nasty call. I tried re-installing Outlook express with the latest version, still OE is making the same call (no other clients make call for this sockfile (IE, Mozzila blah blah))

At present I don't have any other choices, but to format the system. Let me thank you once again for suggesting the software.

Thank you.
