Setting up a slave drive..
Something I'm unsure about and could use some advice..
I have a win2k box with sp4 that constantly BSOD's (kmode unhandled exception.. dumping memory etc.. ) at the login screen, wont even boot in safe mode. It's on an old 40gb maxtor drive that im not particularly bothered about, but its got some files on it that i REALLY dont want to lose, so formatting isn't really an option just yet.(also hoping it isnt a memory failure, 2x512 pc3200 corsair only 6 months old, which will be going in the winxp box mentioned below) So the plan is, to use it as a slave drive in a freshly installed winxp machine. I've only ever tried to use a HD with a bootable OS on it as a slave once before, and it went horribly wrong with page file size errors and i ended up losing my temper and formatting both drives. Is there anything i should do before plugging the win2k HD in and booting up XP ? (maybe this should have gone in the XP section.. couldnt decide !) |

Get new xp system up and running first, without the old HDD chained.
After successful setup of XP, turn off computer and slave the old HDD...I am assuming you are familiar with how to correctly change each HDD's jumper setting... Oh, and don't forget to use an anti-static wrist band! I'm warning you...
