Mystery non existant files at startup

I have a problem when starting windows. After since I had a virus about 6 months ago which was removed every time I start windows a dialogue box comes up with “excel cannot open file” which disappears when I click OK. This happens 4 times. I cant find any reference to excel files in startup. Where do I look to find what causes this

Yes I have microsoft office installed including excel. It looks like there is a call to open files that are not there.

P.S correction to my original post I think it actually says cannot find file not cannot open file
