Request to format floppy - did I lose my data?!?

I have been working on a financial analysis and have been saving it to a floppy as well as my hard drive, however, recent significant changes were made and because of a time crunch I just quickly saved to the disk only. (20/20 Hindsight!) This morning I tried opening the floppy and an error appeared saying "This disk has not been formatted. Would you like to format the disk?" Has the disk been damaged? What would make it revert back to its original unformatted layout? Is there a way that I can access this data - or do I need to go straight to recovery? PLEASE HELP - I don't want to have to re-invent the wheel! Thank you so much!

My System

Welcome to TSF.

I had this problem before also. Forgot what I did though. Two things come to mind:

1. Bad floppy
2. Works in one machine but not the other

I have seen cases where a floppy will be recognized in one computer and not the other. Not exactly sure why though. Did it work before?

It did work before, I've used it many times and I have also tried it in multiple computers.

I don't know what to tell you. Does it work on any other computers (at work perhaps)? Make sure the slot is not set to protected. If anything, open up the slider and see if there are any dusts on it.

I think I know what the problem is, I thought the disk had 2 MB of storage on it, but I think it only has 1.44? If you save more than the allocated amount is there away to recover the information previously saved?

That shouldn't fit in that case. If you have a file bigger than what the floppy can store, it will say that the floppy has no more space when you tried copying it.

You can take a look at this program to see if it can recover the data for you. Use the trial version since you are probably going to use it only once.
