Config.nt Error

I have been triying to install sofware on my Windows 2000 OS and this is the error I get:

config.nt The System file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.

I have tried coping the config.nt & autoexec.nt files from the repair folder and from the instalation cd. Can anyone help.

Thanks for the link. I tried what the microsoft site said but I had one problem, this step right here:

Locate the Command.com file, right-click the expanded Command.com file, and then click Copy.

When I went to my system32 folder the only file I was command.comold, can someone help me please.

My System

Insert the CD again and in the command prompt type in:

expand CD-ROM Drive Letter:\i386\command.co_ c:\windows\system32\command.com

Try copying that file again. It's confusing when I read it. It seems like it should be copied there already.

Ok I have tried everything on the microsoft website and I still get this error:

config.nt The System file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.

Do anyone else have any more suggestions?

Can you check to see if these two files are in their folders:

c:\windows\system32\config.nt
c:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt

They should have been copied over.

I did a little more searching and found out that it might have problems if there's a trojan also.

If you have a fast internet connection (broadband), run an online virus scan at TrendMicro. Make sure to select the Autoclean option. Otherwise, make sure your antivirus program has the latest definitions and run a full system scan.

While you're at it, let's see if you have spyware also. Please download HijackThis. Create a folder at C:\HJT and move HijackThis.exe there. Run a scan and save the log file. Post the whole log file here. Do not fix anything since most of them listed there are harmless (some are system required). This program will help us determine if there is any spyware/malware on your computer.
