what kills program start?

Hi, guys. strange things on my PC. Those who use pop-up blockers, killers, etc. should imagine how it looks like. Problem is: when i try to start/open some progs e.g. diskeeper, or even when i go to device manager, aplication's window appears for a moment and disappear (such as pop-up killer would kill it) i even can't go to event viewer. any suggestion? Thanx p.s. sorry for my english

Please download HijackThis. Create a folder at C:\HJT and move HijackThis.exe there. Run a scan and save the log file. Post the whole log file here. Do not fix anything since most of them listed there are harmless (some are system required). This program will help us determine if there is any spyware/malware on your computer.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that Display the contents of System Folders' is checked. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked.

Reboot into Safe Mode (hit F8 key until menu shows up).

Make sure to close any open browsers. Go into HijackThis->Config->Misc. Tools->Open process manager. Select the following and click Kill process for each one if they are still listed (they shouldn't be - but double check it):

C:\WINNT\system32\oodag.exe

Uninstall the following via the Add/Remove Panel (Start->(Settings)->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs) if they exist:

FlashGet
WindUpdates
Web_Rebates
WebSavingsfromEbates

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

Delete the following Files/Folders (delete folders if no filename is specified) according to their directory (if none, just do a search for them) and delete them if they exist:

C:\WINNT\system32\oodag.exe
C:\PROGRAM FILES\FlashGet\
C:\Program Files\Web_Rebates\
C:\Program Files\WindUpdates\
C:\Program Files\WebSavingsfromEbates\
PowerReg Scheduler V3.exe
PowerReg Scheduler.exe

Reboot into Normal Mode and post a new HijackThis log file so we can make sure it's clean.

i'm not near my PC at a moment. but i'd like to be sure i need to do all the processes YOU wrote down here, when i come back to my PC.
OK. I'm sure i do not need those 3 which start with 'w', but what about FlashGet - i think i need it. And as i know the system was stable first when i got FlashGet. Should i clear it as well as three ather???
THANKS for replies YOU posted

ok i did a job, but i don't think that was spyware problem.
that job didn't solve the problem.
try to explain again. For egsample i go to event viewer or device manager, do click on it but the window disappears imidiatly after appearing, such as pop-up away killed it. i tryed to disable firewalls, pop-up killers, spyware blusters, nothing helps.
could it be, that i'm missing some dll, and would win repair help it?

I've ran into that problem before, exactly as you describe. I believe the solution I found was to simply do a system file repair. Boot from the cd and proceed as if you are doing a "new installation". Do not choose the repair option upfront, but rather the one that you be given after you proceed with "new installation". You will not lose any files via this method. You will however need your keycode available and will have to re-do all Microsoft updates.

Hi nickcnor, we can at least say your spyware is gone, the log is clean. An IE Repair installation may be required if the XP one does not correct your issue:
