Post W2000 Setup not starting

Just installed a cd rom drive and the bios is recognising all the installed devices. The computer is booting from the cd rom first but the 2000 setup is'nt starting. Any Suggestions?

My System

does it get far enough to say "press any key to boot from CD"?

and if it does, where exactly does it hang?

sometimes it will hang during that startup, as it is loading drivers, due to a bad CD.

no it just asks me to chose a boot device, and i chose cd rom drive and the startup never begins. just logs on to the computer. I'm nearly positive I have all the right system requirements for it to run.

My System

2000 doesnt require alot, let me give you an example...

300 mhz
32 megs ram
svga video
2 gigs minimum hard disk
4x cd-rom

i've ran it on something like that, so i doubt we are having requirement shortcomings...

it is possible that the cd-rom you have isnt able to be a bootable drive, or that the cd you have is somehow bad.

have you seen this disk boot another computer?
can the computer boot from other bootable cd's?

they do have a 4 disk windows 2000 boot disk set at www.bootdisk.com it may be of some help to you.

what sort of computer do you have?

Thanks very much.
The IT administrator told me what to use so I took it as law before she left. I logged on and put another cd in it and it wont open. it says it is not accessible. The device is not ready. Is this because the drive is faulty or that it is not installed properly?
Thnks for your help.

found that the cdrom wasnt working properly and replaced it with another one which is working fine but the setup still isnt running. I was tld that all drives should be set to CS in HP/ and compaqs. so am trying this first with just the hard drive and leaving the cd rom as a master.
i realise that the cd may be damaged but just wondering if i have the right requirement.

That is plenty to run windows 2000 (albeit a bit slowly). You may want to download a copy of memtest 86 and run it to check the RAM for errors. Nearly every time my computer crashes during an install, it's either bad media or bad RAM.
