NTLDR problems

Ive been trying to install windows 2000 onto my brothers computer, but I keep on getting the "NTLDR is missing, press any key to restart" error.

the 2k cd boots and it loads all the files, but when it has to restart after the 15 seconds I cant get into the actual setup screen where you enter the cd key, my screen gets plagued by ntldr is missing.

Ive tried to format the harddrive, delete and add a new partition using fdisk, update the bios, nothing seems to work.

NTLDR started causing problems when 2k was previously installed, so I figured a format would fix this problem.

Anyone help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

It would help to know specifics about the hardware. What you describe is frequently because of non-standard disk controllers and missing drivers.

When i type map in the recovery console i see this

? 0mb \device\harddisk0\partition0
c: fat32 19093mb \device\harddisk0\partition1
a: \device\floppy0
d: \device\cdrom0

when i run fixmbr it writes the new boot record to partition0, i tried to delete the partition 0 but i cant. it doesnt show up in fdisk, or when i use partdisk (1) only appears. Boot.ini shows partition(1) is selected. I tried changing to 0 to see if the comp would boot, but it wont. Ive copied ntdldr and ntdetect.com to c:\ from the 2k cd, but to no avail ntldr is missing still comes up.

Sounds like the partition table is corrupted. I suggest you clean off the drive totally and start fresh. Also, are you sure this machine is compatible with 2K?
