Status Update - Win2K Security Patch Problems
This pertains to various problems which may appear after installing the latest Win2K security patches, KB840987, KB841356, & KB841533. I have been working with a MS technician on this.
First, in my case, my problems disappear with removal of KB840987 - that one seems to be the offender, in my case at least. Some have reported a BSOD with stop code 7F. Here is what the MS tech says about this problem: "The Stop 7F error is known to occur if the computer is installed with previous versions of Norton or Intel Ultra ATA driver. To solve the problem, either uninstall Norton or upgrade Norton to the latest version. If the Intel Ultra ATA driver is installed, uninstalling it may also help. For additional information, refer to the following link: http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...048?Open&src=w [end of quote] For anyone using the Ultra driver, Intel has an updated version called, I believe, the Application Accelerator. See their Web site for info. As further developments occur, I will post updates to this thread. |
