EEK! 5.25 floppy drive troubleshoot

I'm trying to install a 5.25 floppy drive in my PC with Win2000, don't ask me why...I'm just bored. When I try to format a floppy I an error message.

C:\>format a:
Insert new disk for drive A:
and press ENTER when ready...
The type of the file system is RAW.
The new file system is FAT.
Verifying 360K
7% formatting
The device is busy..

C:\>
I've tried setting the drive type to both 1.2mb and 360kb. This is the furthest I've ever been able to get.

Could be you installed the cables wrong or opposite to the correct end. Try reconecting the cable.

It's not that. The cables only go on one way. They are all keyed.

Actually, I'm just using one of them at a time b/c the middle connector on the cable won't reach.

What DJ meant was do you have the end with the single connector attached to the motherboard and the other end attached to the floppy drive.

When I say end I mean all the way on the end of the cable.

If so then go into the bios and selet the different sizes for it til you find one that works.

If it doesn't work it may be Kaput....................

Re: 5.25 floppy drive troubleshoot

Hey,

I am the new guy here and I need to ask a dumb question. I have come in on the middle of the discussion and I would like to know how and where would I connect an old 5.25 floppy drive to my windows 2000 xp and what do I need to do to make it run?
