monDisplay... askewed!
i was called to help a client-user who mentioned that he was doing MSword when suddenly his monitor flip to reveal the whole screen image has tilt from normal upright position into 1-quarter clockwise (12'o clock to 03'o clock).
It's a standard tube monitor, machine runs win2K+SP5(patched), IE off but FFox on. Immediately i set a copy of cureIT to scan. Nothing. I run TaskMngr, neither has it listing of suspicious software. For observation, i reboot it 3x. It bootup normally till the logon screen came up - tilted 90deg clockwise! When you login, all image are tilted 90deg clockwise from standard normal screen.. I rebooted for a last time into 'SafeMode' & choose LKGConfig, selected 'Profile1' (the only profile listed) and it boot up 'normal' except - the resolution was basic - like new-build install prior to installing VGA drivers. But the screen images was right. I checked 'Properties' within My Computer & discover that a handfull of drivers - Ethernet; VGA; Audio; USBcontroller, all had Yellow marks. So I proceed to 'reinstall' related drivers. When rebooted again, same problem as initial encounter existed. But resolution was fine. I switched the monitor with a unused-standby unit thinking monitor maybe the problem. Plugged the replacement mon but same skewed image (resolution now is stable) comes up. Here are the machine details: System Information report written at: 01/03/08 05: 06: 10 PM [System Summary] Item Value OS Name Microsoft Windows 2000 ProfessionalVersion 5.0.2195 Service Pack 4 Build 2195OS Manufacturer Microsoft Corporation System Name xxx-xxxxxxx System Manufacturer ASUS System Model P4S533MX System Type X86-based PC Processor x86 Family 15 Model 2 Stepping 7 GenuineIntel ~2466 Mhz BIOS Version Award Modular BIOS v6.0 Windows Directory C:\WINNT System Directory C:\WINNT\system32 Boot Device \Device\Harddisk0\Partition1 Locale United States User Name xxx-ABP4ESQ\Administrator Total Physical Memory 228,896 KB Available Physical Memory 120,164 KB Total Virtual Memory 779,364 KB Available Virtual Memory 610,668 KB Page File Space 550,468 KB Page File C:\pagefile.sys Note: VGA is based on Sis 651; nicAdapters were Sis900PCI fastEther, RALink EW-7628IG wireless. Oh furthermore, there is an folder listed in Programs (frm StartUp) called "Software995.com". When open, it contains an html bookmark. I have that scanned & deleted prior to reloading those drivers mention above. Could this "995dotCom" folder be the culprit? Is that a blacklisted html site? Kindly give me some guidance please. |
