My last question seemed to be a bit of a stumper, so I'll try an easier one. ;)
I recently did some Hard Drive 'shuffling'. Usually I've used PowerQuest's DriveCopy or Norton's Ghost for this, but I misplaced my copies at the time. I turned to a couple of freeware utilities, but this is the best I turned up with... All drives are NTFS formatted with Windows 2000 Pro installed. I copied the contents of a 10GB drive to my old 80GB drive. The drive, AFAIK is only recognized as a 10GB drive. This is now in a computer about 400kms away. I copied that 80GB drive to a new 160GB in my computer. The odd thing is that the drive is recognized as a 160GB, yet only allows maximum capacity of 80GB. I'd have felt better if it was recognized as 80GB, at least that would be consistent. Any suggestions for returning this drive to it's full usable 160GB size? I was going to try PartitionMagic 6... |

Re: Hard Drive Copying
...which didn't work. Since the disk is Dynamic, PartitionMagic would have nothing to do with it. I'll try Ghosting to my second drive, and then formatting and reinstalling fresh, then 'recovering' from my second drive. We'll see what happens.

Re: Hard Drive Copying
Well, that was a no-go either. I was using Ghost 2001, and it would only pick up my drives as 'partitions'. All and fine, but then it wouldn't let me copy them anywhere else. I'll try a newer Ghost version, or I'll just copy the files manually, blow away the drive and reinstall from scratch.

Re: Hard Drive Copying
In a previous comment to hitetec I had mentioned a program called ACRONIS. In your comment to the user you defended ghost and contradicted what I said. I have used ghost before and no longer do so becasue it will only set up the target drive the same as the source drive. If the target drive is bigger, it will only relect the smaller and leave the rest of the space unallocated (unusable). With ACROIS it will proportion the target drive to the entire size then you can use PartionMagic to resize the new drive as you want.
