Mistake My PC will not open ANY links

I am running 2000 Pro on a borrowed system and the brand is 'Monorail". I have IE6, as I get a message that this pc will not support IE7.
For some reason I can no longer open any link on this pc. This only started today and I have opened links until now. I even have some links I had saved of some properties to view and they will not open either. I followed the steps to make sure that IE was the default browser, but I don't have a clue of anything else to do.

My System

Re: My PC will not open ANY links

1. Get Firefox
2. Close IE6 and never open it again.
3. Install Firefox
4. Use Firefox
5. Worship Firefox

It'd probably be a good idea to run some malware scans too, since IE6 will install anything a site wants it to.
