[SOLVED] Windows Outlook Express and Address Book GONE

The reason I am using the Windows 2000 Pro forum is because that is the OS on this hard drive.

Outlook Express, the Address Book and Popfile just disappeared.

I have not a clue as to what happened. I was receiving and sending emails on the 14th of October and I turned off the computer and went to bed. When I turned on the computer 15 Oct nothing was there. I was asked, when I clicked on Outlook Express, if I wanted to setup and email acct with OE.. Then using Windows Explorer I looked every where. NO OE. I have lost 50 or more very important emails, my address book and everything from this computer. I haven't a clue as to what happened. Has this happened to anyone that you know before. My address book was very important. Nothing apparently is wrong with the computer, I have ran several online antivirus programs, malware programs since then and the computer is shown to be clean. I do have MOST, but not every email, on my laptop as each computer OS has OE and is set to leave them on the Server for two days. So when I use the notebook, it receives very thing as well as this desktop and the other OS XP Pro is on another hd in the this desktop but it is full and that will be another thread. The difference was the Address book. l wonder what could have happened?

Re: Windows Outlook Express and Address Book GONE

I turned on my pc the other day and all my data was gone. Avast and AVG found nothing. I downloaded Trojan Hunter and it found 13 trojans. Perhaps you have a similar problem.

Re: Windows Outlook Express and Address Book GONE

May be that is a problem. But right now I cannot find system restore to try to go back to Saturday when all was working OK. I tried system tools but there is almost nothing in there. Windows Explorer is not there either but I found it when I searched for it and made a short cut to it. But the search does not reveal a system restore tool. So going to start>programs>Accessories is not an option.

Re: Windows Outlook Express and Address Book GONE

No trojans here. There was one on the other hard drive but this one is clear. Has anyone had OE to just disappear overnight.

Re: Windows Outlook Express and Address Book GONE

Does anyone have the folder containing the system restore file that you could copy and send to me? It seems I need to replace the folder that is missing. If so where should I go to paste it in the System Tools folder. I have replaced the jscript.dll that microsoft said would need to replace.

Re: Windows Outlook Express and Address Book GONE

I am beginning to think that indeed there is no system restore in w2k, if not how did you restore to a previous point if things went bad?
