Windows2k logs in and then back off

The other day while I was using my desktop when Mcafee Enterprise VS started detecting all this stuff listed as BackDoor-AWQ that said it could not be cleaned. Ive never had such a prob before so I carelessly deleted all the files it detected which I prob should not have done and then ran the Panda online scan. I restarted the comp when the scan finished and found that after I logged in, the desktop would flash and then I would be logged right back out. I thought no prob since my friends comp running xp had a similar prob and I just put in the windows cd and repaired his installation no prob. However, in my case, it does not detect win2k on my partition which is odd since it boots into windows. Could it be that I'm using a hd bigger than 128gb? I used Partionmagic originally to resize my partition after the initial installation of windows. In any case, can I still recover any files? Thanks.

Re: Windows2k logs in and then back off

Hi Shalashashka and welcome to TSF

Apart of our troubleshooting process needs us to boot your computer into Safe Mode to test things. I would like you to start up your computer and when it gets past the BIOS Splash Screen (first load up screen) I would like you to keep tapping the F8 key.

When you get to the Advanced Boot Up Options page I would like you to use the arrow keys to navigate to Safe Mode. Hit enter on Safe Mode and choose the Operating System that has the issue.

After looking over extensively your computers situation I have found that one or more of your Windows Files have become corrupted or deleted. To combat this issue we are going to run the System File Checker on your system which is a built in Windows checking utility that checks and fixes corrupted Windows Files. Please follow these steps as best as possible and if you have an issue please post it back in your next reply:

Windows XP Method
  • Go to Start
  • Click Run
  • Insert your Windows XP Disk
  • Type in the run box " sfc /scannow" (space included)

When the scan is finished please reply back if any files were repaired, or if there was any issue. The XP Method will work in 2k if I am correct. After doing this back up all important data if your Windows Explorer is working.
