Windows 2000 GUI Issues

You guys have helped me out greatly before, so I thought I'd throw this question at you. I'm kinda stumped...

My wife and I both have Windows 2000 Pro. Recently, she had an issue with viruses and spyware (2-3 of each, a massive infection by my standards), and soon after this virus scan, she rebooted her computer.

The attached screenshot tells the whole story. Unlike me, she doesn't use alternate shells, and we're both thoroughly confused. She wasn't amused when I told her it looked like an X-Window

That being said, how do I fix this?

I'd love to see a screenshot from her desktop... However I think it won't be necessary to post that one to clear up this "lovely mess"

The appearance of Windows is controlled in the properties of the desktop. So to change it:

1. Right-click on an empty spot on the desktop
2. Click on "Properties"
3. Click on the "Appearance" tab
4. Select the "Windows Standard" from the drop down list under "Themes"

Note: It is possible that this has to be done for all items under "Items". Also: The font for the icons can be changed in the "Icon" setting, my W2K gives "Tahoma" as the default there, and a size of 8 points!

If you have any questions regarding this, please feel free to ask!

Re: Windows 2000 GUI Issues

Regrettably, that did not work. We've tried a lot of the display options, to no avail. That was one she didn't say that she did try, so I messed around with it. It changed color schemes, but did not restore GUI or text label functionality to the windows.
