RAS problem

I have not done alot of trouble shooting on this yet but I want to install AOL on my NT 4.0 box and it tell me it need to have ras running to install. I am not connected to a windows based server I am connected to a linux server. Any suggestions on how I can by pass this.

ok, AOL sucks, why would you want to install it on such a clean running NT machine? Your just gonna end up with a fubar-ed NT box...but anyway:

RAS is what NT uses to identify and utilize the modem when connecting to a remote system or network (Remote Access System) :)

anyway I'm pretty sure you cant get around installing RAS, it should not (if you get the upgraded version available on the Windows site, not the one that came on the 4.0 CD) cause any problems with your connection to the Linux system.

But that wont matter because your system will come apart as a result of the AOL install soon enough.

NOTICE:
AOL supporters bring on the flames, Ill take you 1 by 1, I hate AOL, and have tons of valid reasons why. PM for a list if you have nothing better to do :)

I am in no way an aol supporter. My wife wants it on there so she can check her account we got aol free for 6 months with the purchase of my computer.

So how do Install ras when I am connected to the internet through the network and no modem is involved.

oh, ok no modem, then you should not need RAS :(

I beileve when your installing Aosmell there is a point when it detects your connection method, I belive with the last version I had (briefly) there was an option to use a Lan connection or a modem. I never used the LAN connection method but Id go that route and see if you can hopefully get it to work.

So your doing AOL BYOA style? (BYOA = Bring Your Own Access) Technically it shouldn't need a modem as long as you set it up to just sign in since the access is already there.... I'd give AOL a shot at this one.... because if it's givin you crap before you can change that setting your SOL until you either do what it says, or install on a non NT machine.
