crazy CDROM
installed a new copy of Windows 2000 pro - installed a Sony DVD combo CRX320e and a Sony DVD burner DRU820 - both would read fine, but when I installed Roxio, both wouldn't work - tried reinstalling the drivers, but both wouldn't work - in device manager they show up but not working properly - uninstalled them both, uninstalled them separately, even tried putting in a basic CDROM - that also showed up in device manager but with nonworking drivers -
any ideas? thought about reinstalling a copy of 2000 pro but can't do that without a CDROM :-) |

Re: crazy CDROM
Uninstall Roxio.
Remove all but one of the optical drives. Go into BIOS, make sure the drive is recognized and BIOS sees it where you thought you physically plugged it in (Such as primary device on 2nd IDE bus, or secondary device on primary IDE) Make sure the data and power cables are firmly plugged in and no bent pins. Go into Device Manager, uninstall all optical drives, restart PC, check BIOS again. When W2K starts it oughta recognize new device and install basic drivers. You shouldn't need any drivers for basic read-only functionality. I'm not saying "don't ever install drivers", I'm saying let's get one of them working as read-only first, then install your drivers, then make sure it's still working, then maybe reinstall ROxio and see if it breaks again. If all is still working, try installing another drive. Theres also a chance this could be power supply problems - how old is the power supply, what's its output rating, and how much stuff have you added to the original PC's configuration?
