super slow pc-what to try first
I'm in charge of fixing computers at my school, and am learning as I go. I've got a Dell running Win2K that is super slow. I've cleaned it up and it runs fairly well before I connect it to our network. Then it CRAWLS. I don't have a win2k disk to reload (it was misplaced and everything else is XP).
What should I try first to try to save this machine? We can't afford to replace it. |

Re: super slow pc-what to try first
It runs OK until you plug it into your network? Weird. I'm no good with networking stuff so out of my league here. Can you bring up Task Manager before networking and after? I'm wondering if CPU usage is going high when it's networked.
That's my only guess - it's seeing the network but doesn't know how to respond and keeps trying some process over and over?? |

Re: super slow pc-what to try first
Are any others having any sorta problems with speed? I was thinking maybe a virus, it happened to me once, when you'd connect the virus would transfer to another and start doing its work. Although this is unlikely, it IS possible.
