Drive letter problems by adding an HD
Hi
Win2000 on an SATA (WD 1600JD) works fine... When I ad one more HD SATA (WD1600JD) the letters of my first HD change. at the beginning it is like this C: is my HD with Win2000 D: is my CD after adding one more HD it is like this: C: is my new HD D: is my CD E: is my old HD with Win2000 The problem is that some linkage is still to C: And now when I remove my second HD. Win2000 is no more starting (missing swap file). I believe, that some of the linkage of win2000 goes now to the HD E: but E: is no more present...???? I hope there is some way to manage, that the first HD with the OS is always named C: But I don’t find a way how to do ?? ??thanks for help regards Heinz

OS: Click "My System" to view details

plug in only the second drive, and repartition it with a secondary partition only.
then, when you plug them all back in, it won't grab c: anymore.

Drive letter problems by adding an HD
Hi
Ohhhhh ... yes.. my second HD has an bootable OS on it…!! I should have think about it but it didn’t come in my mind. Thanks for the helpful replay! ……Do you have an idea, how I can do it, without produce problems to start win2000 on my first HD afterwards? For now my Win2000 don’t start without the second HD. I believe there is some linkage to the second HD…? I have seen that excel changed in some linked Tab’s the letter from C: to E: But the fax program for example don’t work any more, I have seen a link is still to C: Also Norton SystemWorks don’t starts any more. I just added the second HD to make an backup, because my new system was just complete and worked fine. Now it would be not bad to get it back without installing win2000, all the Programs driver and updates again ...if there is an chance ??? thanks for help regards Heinz |
