Thumbs Down svchost.exe - im at a loose end!!

this process is demanding all the CPU time, all the time, any ideas why it might do this? windows 2000 is running on this computer.

until a crash a few days ago this computer was running as a proxy server on the home LAN, but then the proxy software went crazy and demanded all the CPU time, all the time. had to rip out all the networking drivers/software and re-install it.

now that svchost.exe is using all my CPU i am at a loose end! i dont even know what the process is responsible for!

any help would be appreciated - please could you email it to my dad Martin at:

martin_lee@blueyonder.co.uk

thanks,
alex

was this proxy software called "WinGate" and did you try microsoft's fix for it?

andreff: create a new post, svchost is a host for several services, mainly for networking

Download Windows2000-KB823980-x86-ENU.exe from microsoft.com and install it. This should be enought to stop svchost using 100% of your CPU :)
