Win 2k Not Saving Profiles
Hi there...
I am new to these boards... All of the sudden my computer (Win 2k, AMD Athlon) is not saving my profile/settings when I turn the computer off or restart the computer... It is also taking a long time to shut down, with things "sticking" on the "Saving personal settings" window for quite a while - even though it is not saving any settings/profiles... For example, in Outlook Express, I can create a new email account, delete an old account, save all of this - and everything is fine until shut the computer down or reboot. When I do, I no longer have the new account, and the old account I deleted is still there... I am also finding that if I map a network drive, it also is fine and operates fine until I shut the computer down... If I do, when I reboot, the map is lost and I have to remap it again... I do not have this problem with any other computers on my network... I have run a virus scan, using the most recent updates (Norton Anti-Virus), and nothing surfaced in terms of a virus or worm... I also ran a "Spybot" application to see if I had anything "attached" that was alterring my registry, and again nothing... I recently downloaded and installed a few critical MS updates for Win 2k... Is my problem possibly tied to this??? As well, I recently had my local tech come out and set things where I didn't have to deal with a user name and password when I started the computer (I always run the computer as "Administrator")... Could it be that something else was accidently alterred with my Administrator settings when he was out? I have had this computer for 2 years and have never had these problems until recently... Thanks for any insight here.... |

W2K Profile Problems
This may seem too obvious, and may be entirely ignorant on my part, however, remember if you are made the administrator, all changes to the user profile are retained properly.
If a user is not a member of the local workstation User's group - and explicit member - or another group other than the Guest group, the user is considered a Guest. All Guest profoles are deleted when the user logs off and changes are not saved. RESOLUTION: Make sure you are the administrator or you are part of the local workstation Users group. For more information (unless this was a totally ignorant suggestion, in which case simply ignore the post) http://support.microsoft.com/default...roduct=win2000 |

Look in the event log and see if there's an error message about saving profiles. Tell us the message ID and contents.
