OS: Win 2000 prof

startup error

Hi
I'm hoping you can help me. I have an older rebuilt computer that has Win 2000 Prof on it. I havent' used it in a while and I started it up the other night and was fine... i was setting up an outlook for my daughter and I heard a click and it froze.
I rebooted (having to use the on/off button cause it wouldn't do anything else), and now I keep getting a message as its booting,
STOP..Inaccessible_boot_drive...
check for viruses....
run chkdsk /f....
refer to getting started manual for more info on troubleshooting stop errors.

What do I do?
thank you

You may have a crashed hard drive.

Find out the make/model, and download the diag tools from the manufacturer's website. Generally, the file you download, when run, wil create a floppy disk you boot to to run the checks.

If your couragous then you could find the Win2000 install cd and boot into the recovery console and run the fixboot command. This will rewrite the boot sector.

Thanks,
Tom
