It would really help if you told us what the symptoms are? Any error messages, or what?

Yes, I have been able to access the net for about six months now, I have a DSL connection. I dont see any error messages in particular. IE complains that the webpage (like google) is not available.

thanks,
shadowfax

if it is bellsouth DSL, call 1.888.321.2375 (bellsouth fastaccess dsl) and they will guide you on how to get the net back working. there's an IP address you go to to logon to the modem, and you make sure the settings are correct and what not, but i don't remember it offhand.

if it isn't bellsouth, it's probably a local office and you could call them as well.

Can you ping Google by IP?

Ping 216.239.37.99

If that works, try by name:

PING google.com

Also, open a DOS window and type:

IPCONFIG /ALL >C:RESULT.TXT

Open C:\RESULT.TXT with Notepad and copy/paste the entire results here.

My System

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to the bottom of this message to get the latest version of HijackThis. If the site is down, you can also get it here.

Go to My Computer->Tools->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that Show hidden files and folders is enabled. Also make sure that the System Files and Folders are showing/visible also.

Make sure to close any open browsers you have. Check and fix the following in HijackThis (make sure not to miss any):

R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {37D2CDBF-2AF4-44AA-8113-BD0D2DA3C2B8}_ - (no file)
R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497}_ - (no file)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [susp] C:\WINNT\susp.exe
O16 - DPF: {33564D57-0000-0010-8000-00AA00389B71} - http://download.microsoft.com/downl...922/wmv9VCM.CAB
O16 - DPF: {9F1C11AA-197B-4942-BA54-47A8489BB47F} (Update Class) - http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.c...8015.6550347222

Reboot into Safe Mode (hit F8 key until menu shows up). Delete the following Files/Folders (delete folders if no filename is specified) according to their directory (if none, just do a search for them) and delete them if they exist:

C:\WINNT\susp.exe

Reboot into Normal Mode.

Please download Adaware and install it. Make sure to check for any updates before running it. Also make sure to customize the settings in Adaware for better scan results. Run the scan and fix everything that it finds.

After that's done, restart and post a new HijackThis log file so we can make sure it's clean.
