Win2K won't shut down
I went home from vacation. I pressed the power button. Nothing happened. I switched outlets, nothing happened. I reseted the outlet. It turns on automatically.
The "big box" makes the same sound, but only the floppy light is on. The monitor has a constant orange light instead of the old blinking yellow light. To truely turn on, I have to hold the power button for 1-2 seconds, let go, and the monitor light goes from orange to green. When I shut down, the monitor goes green to orange and the "big box" turns of all lights except fot the floppy. It makes the annoying PC sound, so I have to manually go to my outlet "that has 6 outlets that connects to another outlet" and switch the power off. So... to turn on my PC, I start the outlet, hold power button for 1-2 sec. while floppy light and PC sounds are still there. To turn off, I Shut Down, turn outlet off. To try and fix it, I tried reinstalling the OS. I couldn't find my windows 2000 disk that came with it, so I used a family's Dell only XP. It was supposed to clean install. I find a whole bunch of old files, but my start menu is gone. Why didn't XP clean install 2000? Now when I start up, it asks if I want to use XP or 2000, so as opposed to 96% free disk space, I now have 90%. |
