NT installation
ok, call me a moron, but I can't seem to install NT. I know is not exactly the same as any other installation but **** the devil to hell, it's pissing me off.
Here's the scenario. I have this old pc's DEll Optiplex G1, PII, yariyariyara. The only licenses I have are NT so I'm installing it (it says designed for 98/NT). everything goes normal up to the point to install the network adapters. I have another one of this working so i choosed the one it had. But it doesn't recognize the adapter...Then after it finishes...it starts with color defaults, 16 colors, etc and does not allow me to change it. It's all integrated in the motherboard...should it be this difficult? I know is not the network adapter damaged because i tried placing the HD on another pc and the same problem happens. Any ideas to what I should do? I have to do this with 2 computers so any input or direction would be very appreaciated. |

1- go to support.dell.com and, using the service tag number for the machine in question, get the NT drivers for the NIC and VIDEO 2- download SP6a from microsoft.com and burn this and the drivers to a CD 3- restart your install, skipping the network setup 4 - once complete, apply SP6a from the CD 5 - reboot and install the video drivers 6 - reboot and install the NIC. don't let it search for an adaptor, just provide it with the drivers you downloaded. you may need to extrct them to a folder on the hard drive 7 - reboot and check the network connections. you may need to apply SP6a again |
