OS: Windows 2000 Pro (SP 4)

Ethernet Card Drivers

OS: Windows 2000 Pro (SP 4)
Type of computer: Dell Dimension 4600

The computer was running XP and when I installed 2000 I've had a lot of driver problems. I got the video card drivers and the onboard sound working but I've had 0 luck with the ethernet card. The 2000 drivers on the Dell Resource CD don't seem to want to be accepted.

Any help would be great-- let me know if you need more information.

What card? Is it a PCI card or is it integrated? I'm going to guess that it's a 3COM of some sort ... Go to Dell.com, click on Home/Home Office, then click on support. Get the Service Tag number from your PC, put it in, and then you'll be able to get the exact download for your pc.

It's an Intel 10/100 of some sort and I've found the exact download on the resource disk and online but it refuses to take the drivers when I go through the install process, and when I run the setup it does nothing.

Try the latest from Dell's website ... If not, you may have a bad NIC and will need to disable it in the BIOS and install a PCI NIC.

OS: W2000/PCLOS

I did the same with my wifes 4600.Hers has been a piece of crap ever since we bought it so I reformatted and this time installed W2000 pro to see if that would help.(this is 4th reformat by the way)
Never did get the NIC to work with it.So I went back to XP home ;but, only installed the OS,NIC driver.I tossed all those Dell crap cds in the closet and installed my own software. The 4600 now runs better than it ever has.(well ,except when I slipped a Live Linux CD in there and booted from it)It took right to Linux everthing worked right now.No drivers to install or anything.Although wifey agrees that Windows 95% SUX she is too stubborn to switch...............Bootm Line...........they put crap in pcs built for home that would never be tolerated by a business.I assume that is why you also where installing W2000...............Best wishes....................
