Please read the information before you send threads to the security forum.

Please read the information before you send threads to the security forum.
Please help us to streamline the process of posting logs.
Important information prior to posting a log.

The Security area has their hands full with the overwhelming requests to analyze a set of logs. The workload is simply more than they can keep up with at this time.

Therefore, we are asking that all Team Members assist our friends on the Security Team by making sure that those we refer actually need the service. In addition, those who do need the service must be prepared properly when they are sent to the security area.

A reminder that we are not at liberty to assist with logs or any security problem or suggest interventions for those problems without the necessary training at the TSF academy. Those decisions must be left to Security Team Members.

We do have an obligation to guide the person who needs assistance in order for them to be helped in an efficient manner. Please review the following suggestions:
When we see a post that appears to have malware, we must prepare the person/thread to be moved to that area. Hardware and/or software issues need to be cleared up prior to being moved to the security area.

When we request that a person post a log series in the security area, please move (or have a mod move it) the total thread. The series of logs needs to be posted as another step in the thread process. The history of intervention is important to the security team member and all interaction information must be included.

We need to remind the person who has suspected malware issues to follow the instructions listed below:

If you have difficulty with any of the listed steps, move on to the next one, and make note of the issue in your reply.

Be sure to reach Step 5 and post these requested logs in your next reply:

Note: The HijackThis Log Help Forum is extremely busy, and it may take some time before you receive a reply from the security area. Please be patient.

Registry Cleaners

After a long discussion, Chevy and I have come to the same conclusion - Registry Cleaners, while sometimes useful, can and will ultimately cause more problems than they solve.

Leo Notenboom (Ask Leo!) Wrote
Quote:
My fundamental belief is that the best registry cleaner is no registry cleaner at all. Most people simply don't need it, and don't need to run one.
Many people reach for a registry cleaner when an application is having problems, or when Windows is misbehaving. The problem is that these types of situations rarely respond to registry "cleaning" - it often requires application or Windows-specific resolution.

Please refrain from advising that members use these utilities.

Thank you
TSF Management

Please Read before Posting!

It is amazing how many requests for support we get which lack the necessary information to come to a proper analysis of the problem and a fitting solution. This results in posts with requests for more information, and information, going back and forth, possibly loosing valuable time. In order to be able to provide you with the appropriate support we would like you to provide the following information:

If you are seeking help for spyware/antivirus issues, or wish to have your Hijack This log checked, please do not post here!

The Security Center has several sections specifically set up for antivirus and antispyware issues. Please read this post before you submit your question.

The Security Center is staffed with TSF's best analysts - they're the ones who can help you the most with malware related issues.
