system restore

I am thinking of installing Windows ME on my pc. But first I have a question concerning one of the features on ME. Presently I am using Win 98 and have a third party system restore feature, called Go Back, by roxio. Whenever I do a system restore, and the system is finished, I get a log so to speak telling me what was removed and an option to save the files I wish to keep.
My question, before I buy ME, Does ME offer the same option? Can I view the changes and keep the files I want to?
A friend tells me he has ME and has no such feature.
Thank-You for all you expert advice.

I wonder why you would put ME on your PC instead of WIN98, as ME has a bad reputation.
Also I see from your profile that your PC is only Pentium 233 MHz, 128 MB RAM and Giga, which is correct for a WIN98 system,
but lacks power for an upgrade to XP.
So if I where you, I'd just stick to WIN98 ?

win me

Slam,
Ok thank-you, thank-you. this is what I need to know. the reason I want to upgrade, is because some games I have purchased and a new hard drive I purchased require min of win 98 se. Now I have heard about the system restore feature on win me and it sounds great for someone stupid like me.
these are the reasons I want to upgrade.
what do you think about win 98 se?
And how can I get a feature like system restore to use on the 98 se system?
Thank-YOU.

WinMe should have never been released in my opinion. Its pure MicroCrap. Your options are stick with win98 or replace your computer with something capable of running winXP. If you can afford to build a system, and have the knowledge to put one together yourself ..... then thats the way I would go. Otherwise, until you can buy a new computer .... stay with win98.

Upgrade to 98SE. GoBack will work fine with that, and, in my opinion, is superior to MS's restore utility.

(Here we go again with jg and his OS thing). If you look around the net (use ZDNet, Ask Jeeves, etc), you can find some smoking deals on legitimate W2K. Don't just Google W2K; use reputable sites. This computer-impaired user has had a wonderful experience with it, and would encourage you to look into it.

RE: System Restore

Based on Pentium 233 MHz, 128 MB RAM .... Win2k would run slow. It will run and be a fine OS for you, but it would not run as fast as win98se. The flip side .... it would be much more stable. So really, thats the bottom line. So the real question is what is more important .... speed or stability. By the way, I ran Win2k on my PII 300 laptop with 256mb ram beautifully. If your board can handle more ram, it would be a benefit to Win2K.

P.S. Ram upgrades usually give you the best performance gains for your money.
