how do i reinstall win98 if hard drive is write protected

i have this old computer. it has win98 on it but when the system starts up a can't read drive error comes up.

i try to reinstall win98 using a disk but it doesn't work. if i can't log to deleted the old win98 how do i get rid of it.

Can't Read Drive Error usually means the hard drive is no good.

But, to play it safe, download the dig tool from the hard drive manufacturer's site and see what they report.

If you can boot to dos with a boot disk and get to the a prompt........type this.......

fdisk /mbr come back and say what happened doing that.
