Please HELP My PC Has Died

Was ther any resolve of this? I am experiencing the same on my win 98 PC. I get the error message

' Error starting program:
The OLEAUT.32.DLL file cannot start. Check the file to determine the problem'

I cannot connect to the internet, as it will not let me open my connection, I cannot run any virus checks the stinger found nothing, I CAN use the 'run' command and have tried the 'wfc' win file checker, it replaced a setup d.ll but found no other alterations.

If I could only retrieve files that I need I would be happy to trow it at a wall with considerable force, but I have files on there I really need. ( I know, I should have backed up!)

Any help would be fantastic.
Yours
Numpty boy

Try these suggestions:
Go to a computer that has internet access and download the DLL file at:

http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dl...shtml?oleaut32

Unzip the file so that they are out of that zip file. Now open up the text file. It should tell you where the DLL file should be copied to (usually system or system32 folder). Once you read that, jot the directory down and then copy the oleaut32.dll file onto a floppy.

It's probably best to print this out since I want you to enter some command lines later on.

Boot up your home computer put in your floppy. Make sure your bios is changed to boot from the floppy drive first. Load it without cdrom support. Then wait and when you are at the prompt, type in each of the following (hitting enter key after each line):

ren c:\windows\system32\oleaut32.dll c:\windows\system32\oleaut32.old
copy oleaut32.dll c:\windows\system32
Just replace system32 with whatever folder the text file said it should be located in. So if it says it's in the system folder, just replace the above two lines that have system32 with system instead. After finishing those two lines, just hit ctrl+alt+del to restart and take out your floppy.

If that doesnt work install This

OK tried that. no dice!
I could open the floppy drive, and see the new oleaut32.dll, I could pick it up, but when I tried moving it to the system folder it stated, ' Cannot copy oleaut32.dll. The system cannot read from the specified device.'
I have tried 3 floppys now, so it's not a disk error.
Arrrrggghhh
I really appreciate your help GG

If this just happened try restoring it. Boot to DOS and at the prompt type scanreg/restore(no spaces needed) and pick the date when it was working ok.

Can you unzip the download and copy the oleaut32.dll to you windows boot floppy using a different computer?
If so try this fix

Hi kurt, go to a computer that has internet access and download the DLL file at:

http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dl...shtml?oleaut32

Unzip that file so that they are out of that zip file. Now open up the text file. It should tell you where the DLL file should be copied to (usually system or system32 folder). Once you read that, jot the directory down and then copy the oleaut32.dll file onto a floppy.

It's probably best to print this out since I want you to enter some command lines later on.

Boot up your home computer (or whichever is the one that doesn't work) put in your floppy. Make sure your bios is change to boot from the floppy drive first.

Hopefully that will do it.

Here's a couple of other things to try.

......
Microsoft Office 2000 or an Office 2000 Component Is Not
Installed on Your Computer. Re-install

If Office 2000 or or an Office 2000 component is not installed on your

visit the following Microsoft Web site,

Download the Mcrepair.exe tool from the link below, save the Mcrepair.exe file to
the desktop, and then run Mcrepair.exe:
http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...s/mcrepair.exe

Restart your computor

Is there a problem with this? As long as you give credit to the site / author theres no harm in copying helpful information to help resolve this members issue.
A good technician cannot know everything but a good technician knows where to find answers.

HAve you tried to Run the System File Checker?

Go to the Run box on the Start Menu and type in:

sfc /scannow ( sfc if not reconized)

This command will immediately initiate the Windows File Protection service to scan all protected files and verify their integrity, replacing any files with which it finds a problem. You will need your Windows cd.
