sbc dsl connection

Help! I have installed SBC DSL but cannot browse. I have talked to SBC who refers me to microsoft or comapq who will not e-mail me unless I pay $$. I can connect and when I look at the enternet 300 details it gives me an IP address. However, when I give MSDOS the command ipconfig it shows all zeroes for the address. I have read forums of similar problems and have tried different netwrok settings to no avail. Also, when I give the MSDOS the command tracert 151.164.128.2 I get some numbers, the connection times out. I have tried redoing the TCP/IP to no avail. I am ready to attempt sending the whole mess back to SBC if I cannot get it going. My other programs work fine, my software says the system is set up correctly but my speed is at the lowest level of dial up, not anywhere near dsl. I would appreciate any input.

Have you tried unplugging the modem for about 5 minutes?
This isn't a USB modem is it?

yes, I have. I spent close to an hour with a SBC tech who took me through all kinds of settings, uninstall, etc. and told me it seems to be a line problem. I have terrible download, great upload speeds. So now someone is coming to check my line. I have done everything I can think of with the line: change the filter, check connections, etc. I can connect, but terrible speed.

Did you verify w/ SBC that your DNS settings for your physical location are up to date/correct ? Out of date DNS addresses can slow your surf speed to a crawl.
SBC is my vendor. However, I did NOT install the "AOL like" SBC-Yahoo wrap-a-round browser "upgrade" when if was offered.
I get pretty good throughput (for PPPoE) 875-1.5 with a PPPoE configured router. Running Me on an old Dell Dimension XPSR400.
Use patched IE 5.5
Good luck !
