File sharing between XP and 95
Exactly what I says. I need to get a couple files off of my 95 onto my XP. I would just use a cd, but it says that there is no cd in the drive when I put a blank one in. The files are too big for floppy's also. I am trying to set up a network between them. I have an ethernet coming from 95 to wireless to modem to XP. When I run the network setup on XP it writes the files to a floppy. When I put that floppy in the 95 the 95 asks if it can format drive A:. What's the problem and is there any other solution?

The easiest way to transfer your file is to remove the hard drive
from the 95 machine and connect it as a slave drive in the XP machine. Transfer the files, then return it to the 95 machine as master.

IN XP go and right click my computer and choose properties / computer name Check the workgroup or change it at this time. Restart if prompted Go to my network places and select view network connections. You will have a lan entry or one for your network card, right click choose properties , on general tab choose internet protocol =>tcp/ip select it and choose properties. Click use this IP and enter one of the form 192.168 .abc.xyz where abc and xyz are both less than 255 so say 192.168.10.01 Apply and restart if prompted. Go to win95 machine and either go to control panel / network properties or right click on network neighborhood and choose properties On IDentification tab make sure workgroup is same as on XP computer. Change and reboot if needed. Configuration tab => tcp/ip for the ethernet adapter/ properties again specify and ip address. Make it different only in what XYZ are so for example 192.168.10.09 Click on file and print sharing and enable it. (access control should be set to all users share access) That should do it for now. With the two machines linked by an ethernet crossover cable you should be able to double click network neighborhood or my network places and see the other machine. You will have to right click on folders and choose sharing and enable sharing of that folder to see it on the other machine.

And if I forgot to include it ; you need to have the name of your wireless network (the router name/ ssid) the same as your wired workgroup name to make the wirelessly connected computer show up in the network neighborhood on the wired win 95 machine and vice versa.
