Welcome to TSF ComTech & taisa-21

I really dont think opening the cdrom to fix a belt is a wise choice.

taisa-21 how old is the rom and whats the make? Most times when you come upon a faulty cd-rom you just replace it. Their not that expensive. Have you tried cleaning it?

CD problems

Have you made any changes to your system recently? I hooked up a CD with the jumper set on Slave and the tray kept going in and out.

My System

Will it stay shut without a CD in it? Does it stay open or open and close?

Have you had a power outage or surge where your pc shut down? Try holding the door closed as you're shutting down, then reboot

There also used to be a gag program that would open and close your CD. You haven't installed anything from one of your friends have you?

When this first happened to me a few months ago I presumed I'd picked up some infection. It still happens once in a while, but I cured it when it first happened and also when it happens again (sometimes weeks between events), by cleaning and defragging. Old DOS habits that have really helped me in the world of Windows.

Clean & defrag daily or more, stay current with patches & updates & drivers, and re-boot. I know next to nothing these days about what's going on under the hood, but this fixed the CD tray going in and out.
