ME won't start anymore, please help!
Hello everybody,
I have a problem with W'ME, it won't start anymore. Situation: PC with data partition, W'XP Home Edition partition, 2 W'ME partitions & SuSE Linux partition. I use one application which runs only under W'ME. Boot selection is done via PowerQuest BootMagic. What changed since last succesful W'ME use: upgraded RAM from 512M to 2G (required for a heavy application under W'XP). When I select ME to boot, I see quickly the ME logo screen followed by the ME selection screen for normal boot, safe mode... etc. After choosing normal mode or safe mode the system starts rebooting after a couple of seconds, bringing the BootMagic screen again... no error messages appear... When I select ME to boot step by step, I see msgs about smartdrv, nlsfunc.sys, display.sys, ifshlp.sys... etc. The last msg is about Nortons SAVRT.vxd. I don't think Norton is the problem, because I also tried to boot a tiny ME partition without Norton, which gives the same problem. Already tried MaxPhysPage=20000 (= 512 MB) in 386Enh part of system.ini. No difference notified. Any help will be appreciated! Thanks, Rene |
