disk boot failure, insert system disk ....

just assembled used computer. AMD K-6-2 processor.
CD-rw drive, 6GB Hard drive, (out of my other working PC).
192MB Dimm Memory.
Can enter Setup
Memory counts ok
Shows system configuration at start up.
Then get "disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter".
Have not seen this one before.
Get same messaage if I substitute another known good HD.
In both cases I go into CMOS Setup and let the Hard Drive be recognized successfully, then save and exit.
Any insights on this problem to solve? Thanks, Joe

after you insert that hard disk, you need to format it and install some sort of operating system onto it.

towjoe42, welcome to the forums...
If you got a HD from your working PC , you most likely have an OS on it. Since it's from a different setup, it might not work correctly and that's why you're getting that error message. You will probably have to do fdisk / format and re-install the OS on the HD. Remember, if you do this and switch the HD back to the original setup, it might not work there and you will loose all of the information that's on the HD.

Thanks Merlin, I finally figured out what I over looked.
When I put the hard drive in, and started up the PC, I went to CMOS Setup and set the HD recognition to Automatic, It recognized the HD, but when it asked me to put Y or N I did not put Y for Yes, I just hit Escape.
So I went back in and put Y and saved and exited, and it started up fine in win95 b.
It did go through a lot of recognizing the new hardware on the mother board and accessories, and after that it works fine.
Now I am going to practice installing win2000 professional on it.
